Comprehensive Calculator Guide

This calculator tells you what you need on the final exam to reach the course grade you want. With 82% so far, a final worth 40% and a target of 85%, you need 89.5% on the final. It also works backwards: enter the score you expect on the final to see your course grade.

How the required score is found

Course grade = current × (1 − final weight) + final score × final weight. Solving for the final: (85 − 82 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 89.5%.

A result below your current grade means you only need to keep your level. A result above 100% means the target cannot be reached through the final alone: from 60% with a 30% final, a 90% target needs 160%.

How to Use

  1. 01Enter your current grade before the final.
  2. 02Enter the final's weight, such as 40%.
  3. 03Enter your target to see the score needed, or a final score to see your course grade.

Formula Used

Needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
