How it is calculated

Comprehensive Calculator Guide

This calculator is for freelancers, consultants and anyone who sells time by the hour: how many of your working hours clients actually pay for, your monthly income and your real pay per hour worked. Working 45 hours a week and billing 30 at SAR 150 gives a 67% billable share and SAR 19,500 a month — but an effective SAR 100 an hour, not 150.

Utilization and real pay

Email, proposals, invoicing, marketing and learning all take time no one pays for. In consulting and freelancing 70–85% billable is healthy; under 50% means most of your time is unpaid, and over 85% is hard to sustain.

Effective pay is weekly income ÷ all hours worked. Monthly income here assumes 52 working weeks; self-employed people aren’t paid for holidays or sick days, so price them in.

How to Use

  1. Enter the hours you work a week.
  2. Enter the hours you bill and your hourly rate.
  3. Press “Calculate” to see your billable share, income and effective hourly pay.

Formula Used

Billable share = billable ÷ total × 100 | Effective pay = weekly income ÷ total hours

Practical Examples

Example 1
45 hours, 30 billed at SAR 150: 67%, SAR 19,500 a month, SAR 100 effective.
Example 2
40 hours, 20 billed at SAR 200: 50%, SAR 17,333 a month, SAR 100 effective.

Important Tips

  • Track your time for two weeks to see where unpaid hours go.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Estimating income as rate × all hours worked.
