Comprehensive Calculator Guide
This calculator measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM), gross and net of errors, plus characters per minute. Typing 1,250 characters in 5 minutes with 10 uncorrected errors gives a gross 50 and a net 48 WPM — a good speed. Useful for practice and for job tests that ask for a set speed.
The standard word and good speeds
Typing tests count a word as 5 characters including spaces, so gross WPM = characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes, comparable across texts and languages. Net WPM subtracts uncorrected errors per minute.
The typical typist manages about 40 WPM; 45–64 is good for most office work, and 65+ is professional speed.
How to Use
- Enter the characters typed including spaces, from your editor’s counter.
- Enter the time in minutes and any uncorrected errors.
- Press “Calculate speed” to see gross and net WPM, characters per minute and accuracy.
Formula Used
Gross = (characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes | Net = gross − errors ÷ minutes

Important Tips
- Learn to touch-type with all ten fingers; accuracy first, then speed.
