Comprehensive Calculator Guide
This calculator works out how much you need to stop work for some months without pay — to study, travel, start something or care for family — and how long it takes to save. Six months at SAR 8,000 a month plus a 10,000 trip needs SAR 58,000; with 20,000 saved and 3,000 a month put aside, you’re there in about 13 months.
Working out the amount, and before you go
Multiply the months off by your monthly spending during them and add extras such as fees, flights or equipment. Subtract what you’ve saved and divide by what you can save each month.
Keep your emergency fund separate, check how unpaid leave affects health cover and pension contributions, and allow for the first couple of months back before pay arrives.
How to Use
- Enter the months off, your monthly spending during them and any extra costs.
- Enter what you’ve saved and what you can save each month.
- Press “Work out the amount” to see the total, what’s left and the months needed.
Formula Used
Needed = months × spending + extras | Months to save = (needed − saved) ÷ monthly saving
Practical Examples

- Example 2
- 12 × 6,000 + 30,000 fees = SAR 102,000; at 4,000 a month: 25.5 months.
