Comprehensive Calculator Guide
This calculator works out the range, the gap between the largest and smallest values, with the minimum, maximum and midrange. Temperatures of 18, 25, 31, 44, 39 and 22 have a range of 26 and a midrange of 31. It is the simplest measure of spread.
Range
Range = max − min; midrange = (max + min) ÷ 2. It rests on two values, so one outlier inflates it; pair it with the IQR or the standard deviation.
How to Use
- Enter the data.
- Negatives and decimals are fine.
- Press “Calculate” to see the range, minimum, maximum and midrange.
Formula Used
Range = max − min | Midrange = (max + min) ÷ 2
Practical Examples
- Example 1
- Temperatures: 26.
- Example 2
- Marks 60–95: 35.
Important Tips
- Sort to see the ends.
- Check the extremes.
- Use the IQR with outliers.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Subtracting first from last unsorted.
- A negative range.
- Missing negatives.
